Briann Decima, a 2001 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, made the dean's list for the spring 2005 semester at Slippery Rock University.

Jefferson Hills native earns awards

Emily Cipriani, daughter of Art and Ann Cipriani of Jefferson Hills has received the following awards: The Presidential Excellence Award from The Oakland School and both the Presidential Merit Scholarship and Parish Scholarship from Carlow University. These awards represent both high academic achievement and volunteer service. Cipriani has also received recognition awards in both physics and trigonometry.

Quel inducted into Steel Center's Honor Society

Jamie Quel was inducted into the 2004-05 Steel Center National Vocational Technical Honor Society. The selected students were nominated by their technical instructors having met the educational criteria for the honor society, which includes a grade point average of 93 percent or above, class attendance and the completion of three nine week semesters.

Gill Hall fourth grader Jacob Mascaro placed second in the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Calcusolve math competition, which consisted of more than 150 students. Students had to problem solve by answering questions that necessitate mathematical calculations.

The Rotary Club students of the month for May are Cody Soska, Tom Russo, Robert Raimondi, Jon Consoli and Ian Grant. The Rotary Club student of the month is a recognition given to Thomas Jefferson High School sophomores, juniors and seniors who demonstrate excellence in community leadership and service.

Eight area students represented the district in the recent Math 24 competition at the Jefferson Hills Borough building. The fifth grade representatives were Jeremy and Justin Core (Jefferson Elementary), Taylor Lawrence (McClellan Elementary) and Stephen D'Orazio (Gill Hall Elementary). From Pleasant Hills Middle School, they were David Donohoe (grade 6), Evan Reinhart (grade 7), Haley Sharp (grade 8), Colin Reinhart (grade 7 - platinum level) and Donnie Voland (grade 6 - platinum level).

TJHS senior Kayla Polick placed second in the 2004-05 Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) design competition. The competition, sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction, challenged local students to design a bank facility on a site that was considered green space for the community.

Four TJHS students were selected into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 West Band Festival. More than 500 student musicians from 49 schools applied to participate and 180 were selected. They were: Jennifer Alfieri, Christina Calise, Cody Soska and Craig Conaway.
