BWAA all-star team wins Greentree 'instructional' tournament

Baldwin-Whitehall Athletic Association's 8 year old traveling all-star baseball team won the Greentree Instructional Level Tournament last week.

The local club defeated Sto-Rox in the title contest, 24-6, as J.T. Toth was named MVP of the game.

Other members of the BWAA team include: Jacob Panchak, Colin Ammann, Anthony Rago, Jake Monroe, James

Rebel, Nicky Dolan, Mike Goga, Will LaPlace, Stephanos Mauroides and Ben

Remlinger.

The team's coaches consist of Gary Remlinger, Steve Ammann, Matt Goga, Jay Monroe and Jeff Panchak.

Several members of the BWAA squad took first place in the "Slickest Infield" skills competition held after the championship game.

The infield members who competed in the contest were Dolan (pitcher), Monroe (catcher), Ammann (first base), Rago (second base), Rebel (third base) and Goga (shortstop).

BWAA clocked the winning time of 10.44 seconds.

JU soccer in-house registration set

Jaguars United Soccer Club will accept 2008 fall in-house registrations on Aug. 11, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Pleasant Hills Borough Building.

Registrations will also be taken at the Jaguars United Soccer Club booth at Mowry Field on Community Day.

BWFP accepting 2008 fall signups

Baldwin-Whitehall Fast Pitch is accepting registrations for the 2008 fall softball season.

The fee is $60 for the 10U, 12U, 15U and 18U divisions. The maximum fee per family is $110 for two girls and $150 for three girls.

Volunteers also are needed for the upcoming fall season.

BASA taking fall registrations

Brentwood Area Soccer Association is accepting registrations for the 2008 fall season for area youngsters ages 12 and under.

Sentner golf outing slated Sept. 5

The third annual Swing 4 Sentner golf outing will be held Sept. 5 at Montour Heights Country Club.

The schedule of events is: registration from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., a shotgun start at 1 p.m., cocktails from 6 to 7 p.m. and dinner and auction from 7 to 9 p.m.

The cost is $200 for the outing or $40 for the dinner and auction only.

Rich Sentner is suffering from a degenerative form of dementia (much like Alzheimer's disease). The outing is held to assist the Sentner family with its current financial hardship, and to provide education on the life-changing disease.

Sponsorship is available at different levels, and items can be donated for the auction by contacting either Jon Agnew at jagnew@gesonline.com or Patrick Sentner at psentner@naipittsburgh.com.

The registration deadline is Aug. 8.

Baseball tryout/hitting camp set

Coast to Coast Baseball will host tryouts and hitting camps in the area on July 31.

The tryout and a three-hour hitting camp will be held at La Roche College, beginning with a tryout at 10 a.m., followed by the camp at 2 p.m.

Cost for the tryout is $25, and the hitting camp is $50. Cost for both is $65.

Hunter's safety course offered

The Whitehall Borough Police Department is holding its annual hunter's safety course Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the community room of the Whitehall Borough Building.

Participants must attend both days to receive a hunter safety card.

McDevitt outing set for Sept. 14

The seventh annual Chuck McDevitt memorial golf outing will be held Sept. 14 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

Registration on the day of the event is scheduled to start at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

McDevitt was the former golf course superintendent at South Park Golf Course and school board director for the West Jefferson Hills School District. He died in 2002 from pancreatic cancer.

The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes a continental breakfast, sandwich, drink after nine holes and a buffet dinner. The cost for dinner-only is $40 per person.

Tryouts to be held for 12U squad

The Lady Knights, a travel softball team based in Canonsburg, will hold tryouts for the 2009 season in September for girls in the 12-and-under age division.

The tryouts will be held over a two-day period (no dates have been set) at North Strabane Intermediate School.
