Baldwin High School varsity golf team tryouts will be held Aug. 11 to Aug. 13 at different courses.

The first varsity tryout is set for Aug. 11 at Hickory Heights. The report time is 7 a.m. and tee-off time is 7:30 a.m. The cost is $15.

Varsity tryouts are for all seniors or for any juniors, sophomores or freshmen who believe they have the skills to compete at the varsity level.

The second and third tryouts are set for Aug. 12 and 13 at Cedarbrook (different courses each day). The report time is 7:30 a.m. and tee-off time is 8 a.m. on both days. The cost is $11 per day.

Baldwin junior varsity golf team tryouts also will be held Aug. 11 to Aug. 13 at South Park. The report time on the first day is 7 a.m. The cost is $10.40 per day.

No seniors will be permitted to try out for the junior varsity team.

"Only the golfers who feel they need another year to prepare for varsity golf should try out for the jayvee team," said Baldwin's head golf coach, Jim Stanko.

"Both teams will play 17 or 18 golf matches this season, and both will be going to Highlands Springs to play. We'll be playing on courses like St. Clair (Country Club) and South Hills Country Club, and many other great courses."

All golf team candidates must have a physical form filled out completely, along with an emergency form.

New physical forms can be obtained from the Baldwin High School athletic office or on the school district's website.

"This form will be good for all sports for the whole year," said Stanko, who will be working with a new junior varsity coach -- Doug Graff -- this season

"Doug's young and pretty enthusiastic and I think he will do a nice job," said Stanko. "Getting a fresh face (in the program) will help us, plus he's a teacher at the high school."

All new golfers need to attend all three days of tryouts.

Four members of the Baldwin golf program were all-section selections last season -- Drew Kreigline (first team), Grant Nagy (second team), Conor Murray (third team) and Peter Hoffmann (third team).

Brett Cox also was named the "rookie of the year" in the section.
