The Landmarks Scholarship Award Application: 2008
A program funded by the Brashear Family Fund of the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation

 
The purpose of this annual scholarship award is to recognize and reward at least one senior high school student in Allegheny County who is interested in the history, architecture, and/or landscape design of the Pittsburgh region and who will be a full-time college student, beginning in the fall of 2008. Since the program’s inception in 1999, twenty-five graduating seniors from area high schools have been awarded scholarships in the amount of $4,000 each to colleges of their choice.
 
Eligibility Requirements and Criteria
The recipient of the award will receive $1,000 for his/her first year of undergraduate study to help pay tuition and book expenses. The scholarship award will be renewed each year, with a maximum grant of $4,000, if the student maintains good academic standing and demonstrates involvement in campus activities. If, for any reason, the recipient leaves school, the remainder of the award will be forfeited.
The prerequisites necessary to apply for the award are as follows:
1. The applicant must be a resident of Allegheny County.
2. The applicant must be a high school senior who has been acceptedat a college or university.
3. The applicant’s cumulative Quality Point Average at the end of the first semester senior year must be 3.25 or greater.
4. The award is based on a student’s academic achievement, community service/work experience, financial need, and interest in the history, architecture, and/or landscape design of the Pittsburgh region.
5. The applicant must write an essay (see the enclosed guidelines), provide a high school transcript, a copy of his/her college acceptance letter, and one letter of recommendation. A letter from a neighborhood leader or community service director is especially welcome.
 
Application Deadline: Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 25, 2008, and mailed to:
