You may or may not know that Canonsburg Lake is home to a hybrid of the Great Egret and the Great Blue Heron. They look very similar.
According to the State Wildlife Management Agency, the birds are an endangered species in PA and should be safeguarded from developmental pressures. The PA Turnpike Commission is proposing building a super highway, the I-79 connector right over the lake.
I personally have seen this bird several times in 2006 and 2007.
