Sad to see

It is sad to see that Movinonup posted a serious blog regarding the greed of the school district (the 4th of July parade). It was removed this morning due to a select few that wanted to change the subject to a bashing session. I am also appalled at the band receiving money to march in the Parade. This should be a community project for the band members to showcase their talents. I am sure that the students do not directly receive any monetary benefits from the parade. I completely understand fundraising but you also need to give to the community. By marching in the parade the band is put on center stage and residents will remember that when a band member knocks on the front door selling a fundraiser. I am not insulting a school student in any way but their leadership. I am willing to bet that most band members do not even know that the band receives money. In my eyes the students are being used a pawns. If an educated person on this subject knows first hand of this, please clarify the facts for the residents. I know the 4th of July committee works very hard to raise funds for our borough’s annual showcase to be the best it can be. This money could be used elsewhere and the band members will know they did something great for the community, because after all they are all talented students that we all love to see perform. These students will hopefully set an example for the young boys and girls watching the parade.

It wasnt my intention to start A bashing session, only to point out that funds from the Fourth of July went to non-related Boro projects.
Watcher,
Your point ( If valid) should also be discussed. If you could shed some additional light on that issue it would be nice. The more I read, the more coruption I hear about in the community. It wasafter your post that the bashing started. For the record I am not a teamster, nor was I ever.
Donkey slayer,
It is true that Brentwood gets money from the Committee for marching in the July 4th parade. I also know that the Baldwin band got money for marching in Baldwin and Whitehall community days. It isn't that they are "paid" to march. The groups that organize these events give the bands a "donation" for appearing. I know that is nitpicking. I also don't agree with the practice. This started years ago and was done by the organizing groups to help off-set some of the costs borne by the bands to show up. Things like the cost of busing the bands (and equipment) to the event, the cost of the bus drivers, etc. It was done as a nice gesture but now the bands (in actuality the band directors, band parents and "booster" groups) have come to expect it. I can see if Keystone Oaks decides not to show up for the Brentwood parade because of no donation, but the local Brentwood band should not expect any donation. They are in existence because we local taxpayers are already footing the bill.
Early Wednesday morning we had to remove the blog not because the original blog was inappropriate, but due to user comments that breach our Terms of Service.
The original blog as been republished.
I hope that I did not accuse this site of removing a post without cause. I understand why it was removed and comend you for watching over the site to protect people who are not on the site. I just wanted the points that movinonup brought to the site be seen.
No, I didn't take your post as accusing. I am glad you brought the subject up while we reviewed the comments. Thanks.
