I believe there was recently an article about the new skate park in South Park. It stated that the county footed the bill for the new skate park and it was about 1.35 million.
This project wouldn't be all that difficult or complicated to secure funding for. But as it is driven by a mayor who alienated himself from the legislative body which would have to build it, the prospects of completion don't look too positive.
This "skate park" has in a way become symbolic of Brentwood as a community. The politics of the borough has consumed the place.
A group of well-intentioned folks is a great thing for a community to have, but without leadership those intentions usually amount to very little. Subsequently that should be the job of a mayor, "to lead".
I've stated my thoughts on these blogs over the past few months and have enjoyed it. There's nothing more for me to say, except "best regards."
Dear Brentwood residents,
Mayor Ken Lockhart has been a pessimistic and detrimental hindrance to our community. I challenge a supporter to emerge with a favorable resume of his achievements that have impacted or advanced our community in a positive light. He has been a egotistical and self-interested figure head to Brentwood Borough. I ask...... when is enough enough ???
Residents need to step forward, as those who have the distinctive honor of the highest mileage rate in the state of Pennsylvania. Demand more from an elected official. Our taxes are not intended for anything other than bare neccessities (schools, police, fire, EMS, roads) and a few high ranking desires (a swimming pool, a park, maybe a community day). Our Mayor choses to spend OUR tax money on fighting (the police, the parks and has even complained about the road improvements).
Please, think before you vote, our taxes are depending upon it !!!!!
SHR seemed to forget in their recap of events to discuss the Skate Board Park in full. Brentwood Young Citizens ask for Skateboard Park again ( repeat since 2003 ) of which was in planning by Dytko in the Park and Hollow reconstruction, after Dytko investigated and received information
for the ground work, Mr. Swanson who was Pres. at the time and working with Lockhart took the project away because of personal grudge. Mayor Lockhart jumps in has it all figured out , will raise money with pop cans for the skateboard park. Grants are given by Rep. Readshaw - 25,000 and Congressman Murphy 5,000. Asphalt is placed in middle of park with time donated by volunteers acording to Mayor. $ 25,000 is supposedly spent on laying asphalt unevenly , Mayor has no idea of how much money he has made on pop cans. Mayor states that the pop can money was used for sealant on
asphalt. Pop can money supposedly mixed into general fund, the scrap yard gives receipts and if being handled properly would have written checks unless the Mayor took his lessons from Public Works on how to abuse money
and was getting cash for his own flower fund. Now we get to Dawn Lane the
great Treasurer who can't seem to get any of this information together.
WHY??? Lane was asked by a resident to see the grant file on how this money was being spent,Lane stated that she didn't know where it was. Come now Mrs. Lane and while we are at it What happened to the $5,000????
Then we get Ms. Boyko who plans to jump in and save the day to help raise money for the Skate Board Park and yet there are some issues in question of monies donated a few years back to the 5k race that her and the Mayor are in charge of. But wait there is more Ms. Boyko who is here to save the day by being elected on council refuses to take a Committee
SURPRISE SURPRISE !! Just some things to make you say mmm! I am sure they will try to quickly remove this blog as they usually do to save the Mayor and who ever else is in bed together. One more interesting point
pop cans that were to be used for skateboard park NOW seems to be fundraiser for Brentwood Cares, very interesting.
There had better not be one cent allocated for anything more until our kids are no longer picking cinders from their skin.
It is inconscienable that in this day and age, our kids have to run on cinders, while all the other sports take priority! The thousands we have put into the fooball FIELDS has borne that out!!!
It is embarrassing hosting other schools. You just sit in the stands and pray no one falls.
But, hey, football, deck hockey and a skate park are much more important than kids' safety.
Mayor, council....Get your priorities straight!
Wedding Singer:
I could not agree with you more. As a parent of 3 children that all participate in sports for the high school as well as in the community the state of our field and track is embarrasing.
The High School Track & Field Teams can no longer have home meets due to the fact that our track is not only cinder it's not the proper size. It's a shame that while the team may be small they are quite talented and should be able to enjoy home field advantage, instead they must win on the road and win they do.
It might interest everyone to know that a few years back council did in fact use grant money somewhere along the lines of $40,000 to resurface the field, can't you tell, it's looks so wonderful. I know of several kids that have broken a bone or two on that field since it's resurfacing that's how well of a job has been done.
It's a shame that our neighboring community (Baldwin) is getting a new football field, track and practice fields....maybe they would like to donate their hand me downs to our community.
Wedding Singer,
I agree. There needs to be priority. I agree with the other blog that said South Park just built a skate park in South Park. We need to invest in our track and field at the stadium. We can no longer accept a cinder track. It's unacceptable. More parents and residents need to get involved and help to push this along. Go to the borough meetings and be heard, we need to let council know that this is what we want.
I know that council is working on this, but they need to be reassured by the people that this is important to the residents.
It is embarassing. In today's day and age we should have a turfed field and rubber track. Period.
Gatekeeper....you did your homework. Good info. I agree that the field needs work as well as numerous other areas in the borough... HOWEVER, my 11th grade daughter has been recycling those cans since 6th grade. They were promised a skate park and should get one. The SNAFU caused by various people should not effect the efforts of these kids. We try to keep our kids off the streets and yet cannot provide an alternative that was promised to them. How sad.
If you go up Rt. 51 near Bradys Run park in Beaver County (click here for Google Map), you can see a really cool skate board park that uses an area of about 1 tennis court.
Heres a couple good videos of the park on YouTube
Its in an area no bigger than a tennis court.
Maybe we can refurbish one of the old courts in the park for this?
We can work with Readshaw and Sen. Murphy for some $$$ as well as simple fundraisers.
As someone who has worked construction and have the experience with local and state govt., I would like to know what happened to the money originally designated for this project. I believe it was A grant for 25,000. There is not 25,000 worth of work in the park. Before someone goes chasing Murphy or Readshaw for more money, maybe they need to be asked to investigate and provide an accountability to where the original money went. When A grant is issued you need to provide plans and info. as to what you are going to spend it on and when you are done you need to provide proof that is was it was spent on. If the mayor and/or Brentwood doesnt have the info.(which they should)it can be obtained from the State as it is public taxpayers money.
