I would like to post a quote from the "Illustrious Mayor of Brentwood." This comment was made to the Tribune Review after hearing of Mary Dytko handing in her resignation.
"As long as (council does) the right thing and accepts her resignation, I'll be happy," Lockhart said. "I'm not really looking for anything more than that from the (District Attorney's Office)."
Very nice Mayor. More worried about your personal vendetta than trying to figure out the true and complete facts of the case? You are not worried about trying to solve the issue, and take steps to make sure it can't happen again? I guess MD was right - "It's a whole political issue between (the DA's Office) and certain people in Brentwood. They wanted me out of office from the get-go."
The whole situation gives this borough a black-eye, and the Mayor's comments make it worse. Wake up and do your job. You were elected to serve the people of Brentwood, so start doing it.

Our fine Mayor sets a great example for our small, friendly, quiet community. Why must you insult him? You act like he is a man capable of counting soda can money for skate board parks. You act as if he would have Felons or people involved with borough buisness pay for his family, the police chief, and himself to go on golf outings. He is a fine citizen. I think that you are still upset that the council president resigned. Do you actualy expect him to clean up the corruption in the borough goverment? If that happened we all know that the borough building would be empty. He got rid of the wicked witch, do you want him to also be concerned for your tax dollars as well. You act as if you must flip hamburgers 8 hours per day to pay your 80 cents in taxes. The question you should be asking yourself is not what the mayor can do for you, but what you can do for the mayor. I must now go drive on our new smooth black streets that popped up all summer long. They are so much better than the old brick ones. I can now sneak up on all of the little green people with the slow signs that the Mayor got for us.

Are you serious? You are going to attack the Mayor for making a simple comment? I am sure that if the Distric Attorney is the one that pressed charges they must have some solid proof. I don't think they would just charge her for something that serious on spectulation. I agree with the Mayor that she should of resigned from council after all she was purchasing items with a borough credit card which means she was not paying taxes on those items. Even though I am new to town I did my research and read all about the charges. I don't see this a personal vendetta. Plus have any of you talked to the council members, ask them what they think of all of this, they will tell you that she is wrong also. I don't see you saying anything bad about them on these blogs. I have overheard several of them talking about the situation and they were saying how wrong she was for what she did.
As for a Felon paying for someone to golf, who cares, atleast he's not putting it on the boroughs credit card. And what business of yours who pays for his golf?

The question is not if it was wrong what took place. I will agree with anyone, that if proven guilty punishment should be issued. The problem is, that the mayors statement basicly says he does not care if anything else happens. This means he does not care if any other wasteful spending is taken place. Are you not concerned where your tax dollars go, or who's pockets it ends up in. At the very least the following statement raises the question if the Mayor is more concerned for the people he was elected to represent or his own personal vendettas.

I have heard from more than one source that there were more than one Sam's Club cards out there being used in similar fashion. I believe that the records for that account as well as all borough spending should be made public.
As for the golfing, is it ethicly correct to have a public golf outting paid for by people who do work with the borough? I believe Luke Ravenstall is going through the same issue at this time. As for a convicted person paying for the golf, my concern is more with the police cheif. How would it look if a bank robber went golfing with the head of a bank? Is it not the job of the police as well as the mayor (since he over sees the police dept.) to protect us from crime, not associating with the convicts?
You are right. I am attacking the Mayor for making a "SIMPLETON" comment like that. It is my right as a tax paying citizen of Brentwood to question and/or comment on the job that I help pay him to do. If he doesn't like that, he shouldn't be in office. The validity of the charges brought against Mary Dytko are not in question here, the fact that the Mayor only cared about having her removed is. Should somebody who used borough credit cards without permission be removed from their position? Yes. Should the Mayor care more about how it happened and what to do about making sure it doesn't happen again? Yes. This is where the issue occurs. If you worked for IBM and got caught using a company credit card for personal use, would you be fired? Definitely. Would it end there? Definitely not. There would be a thorough investigation of how it happened, why it happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. If the mayor wants to hold a grudge, let him. I could care less about that. I do care about him doing his job and protecting "OUR" tax dollars. If he is not willing or capable of doing his job, maybe he should step down. As far as the other members of council, I do not need to talk bad about them. Once again, I am not questioning the charges or the case, just the comment and it's meaning.

Where are the other charge cards, and who used them? Probably the same ones who now sit in council chambers and do nothing for fear of retaliation. Could you please specify what coruption by the Mayor and Chief you are talking about? It is my understanding that the charges against MD were pending long before Council decided that they had to lose more money in a law suit by illegally firing the Chief.Again,why is it that council felt that they had to fire the police chief? Is this borough not tired of giving away your money in law cases that they cannot win?
I agree with you-what is illegal is illegal.There is no defense for people who participate in activities that violate the law for any reason.What I see with this borough is a bunch of children who can't play nice together in the sandbox.People are "sought" out because someone doesn't like someone else so they and their friends go on a witch hunt and stir the pot.Sounds like a group of children on the play ground,doesn't it?
If the kids would just play nice,time would not be wasted,money to attorneys would go to better places,and the community could move forward with positive change.

I think that the Mayor and Police Chief taking entrance fees to Golf outings from a convicted felon constitiues corruption. What does the Felon have to gain? The only answer I can speculate on is influence on future Borough business. Let's see if he gets the Borough vehicle contract back. Maybe the Chief will have his department look the other way if they break the law. There is No Free Lunch. Remember that. I do not know what else they have done. This is the only thing that I have heard of but it is enough for me to question their judgement. Both men come off as being good people who want to do the right thing. It is their actions that make folks ask questions.
I know you are entrenched in the Police with your husband. This can place a shroud on what you choose to see. If the mayor and chief continue to make poor decisions like this, it will have a trickle down effect on the rest of the people working in the Borough Building. The coucil has clamped down on the credit cards after Mary D's fiasco. Now it is time for the others to start making more ethical decision with who they take kickbacks from.
I don't disagree that my situation with the police department can make it difficult to be objective at times.I also agree that there is no free lunch.This applies in any business or career.I am not sure though that making poor choices in some peoples eyes defines corruption.That is a pretty strong word.

I will concede the it only constitues corruption when something is given in return for the kickback. I will change my stance to just an Ethics issue for now. I do not understand how you can say Ethical would be a long Debate though. Taking kickbacks from a convicted Felon means there is no debate. What's wrong is wrong. When Politician's do this on the State or Federal level, we have no problems calling it what it is. Wrong and Unethical. Maybe folks on the inside, like your husband, can talk some sense to these gentlemen. To keep making it like this is No Big Deal is sicking and disturbing.
We will see once the new comers(aka Mayor Lockhart's Cronies) get on council. I and others will see what agenda they push.
What specifically is the "kickback" you are referring to? If the "Felon" has no business ties to the borough how can you construe that there is an ethics violation? Because of a possible future businees deal with the borough, how ridiculous is that?
How about the new member of council being approved by our own convicted felon that just resigned? Was his appointment also a ethics violation because council approved his application and he went along with denying the residents a right to speak at the council meetings as did the rest of council. Not until the ACLU got involved, were the residents permitted to speak at the meetings.
"New" member still believes that the meetings should be conducted as a "business" meeting, again, how ridiculous is that!

From your name I would think that you would have all the information before speaking. The Felon I am refering to previously had the borough vehicle contract. He lost it to Missionary Auto just last year. That is where the conflict of interest and unethical behavior comes in. The borough does not need to be dealing with Felons. That is also why I am happy that MD is now gone. By the way I did not vote for her did you? She was evidently a Felon before the credit card scandal.
I am happy that someone came in and said the meetings should be more business like. It is a council meeting not Barnum and Bailey. People could speak at that time it just had to do with the business of the borough. If you have been to the meetings since the new rules have been in, the personal attacks have nearly disappeared anyway. Nearly All of the questions deal with borough business.
There is a big difference between threating ACLU action and doing it. Where there any formal complaints filed?
It is pitiful that you are still complaining about this issue. If everyone would have been acting their age this would have never happened!

That issue has been over for months just like the ACLU telling council to allow the residents to speak at meetings without restrictions. And no, I did not vote for MD but apparently the "New" member did because he applied for the vacant council seat and was awarded it.
By the way, the "New" member did not come in and say that the meetings "should be more business like", he stated that the residents could NOT speak if it wasn't on the agenda. He stated it many times to several residents. His opinion is one of which that residents should be seen and NOT heard.
It is pitiful that you started complaining about the felon when he is no longer an issue as his business was replaced by Missionary Auto.
If it is in the past, leave it there.

You should change your name to the Deflector because you are sure trying to deflect the conversation away from your two buddies(Mayor and Chief) and onto Mr. B(the new member) and myself. There is an easy fix to these problems within the borough, that I question why they have not been done already. A full investigation and audit of all departments and personel of the borough. As long as all of the records are produced(with none of those ending up missing). This would end all of the rumors of credit card spending (beyond MD), missing 5K monies, missing or sold firearms, employees using borough cars to frequent bars and casinos on borough time, Past out of state criminal records, borough contracts, ect, ect., ect. This would make the blog sites boring, but the borough would receive a clean slate to work with. As for the turmoil within the police department, maybe it is time for a new leader. If the Chief can not keep the entire force united, perhaps he can not handle the job. If the Police men can not work together, how are they to get respect throughout the community. It is easier to replace the Chief than the entire Police force. This is the same principal that is applied in sports when a team does poorly. All of the players are not replaced, simply the coach.
I do recall attending a council meeting after MD was arrested and they did bring someone in to do an audit. And I remember the new council president saying that they found nothing out of the ordinary that raise any questions. Maybe no one else here was present at that meeting, just me.

I have a few questions about the audit? Who was it done by? Where are the results? Were they made public? Who and what all was investigated? Did they go from top to bottom, or just the few places they wanted to look? If you have seen the results of this audit, I would love to hear your response, and where I can get a glimpse of it. I hope we didn't waste tax payer money on a lame audit that only looked at a Sam's Club Credit Card. I would hate to see the uproar that would cause. I know that I am going to get pummeled on this one,but here goes anyway.Why is it that some teams,like the Steelers for example,can keep the same coach for years and never fire or replace him until it is the coaches choice?Other teams seem to replace a coach every season.The same players stay and the coach gets fired every season.Could it be the players?
The team concept is what is important,not "them" and "us".Unhappy police officers get involved in the game of politics and would sell out their mother if they thought it would be to their benefit.Many of these officers have been there through every Chief since Bob Hartshorn.Maybe the principal of changing the players might just be appropriate in this case.The fact that the police department isn't united doesn't reflect on the Chief-it reflects on the officers.You can't be united if you don't have a team mentality.
I am not here to slam you, but I feel the need to respond to that. Maybe the Steelers hold on to a coach for so long because the players under him respect and listen to him. He in turn respects and listens to them. If there is no respect between the two, then there is no teamwork. It is the person in charge who is reponsible for making sure that the department works as a unit. If that cannot be done, then said person needs to be replaced. This also goes for the upper echelon. If the Mayor can't make sure that he and council can work as a unit, then maybe he needs to look at why. Maybe he should do more to figure out why council does not respect him, and see what he can do to change that. I can see the responses to this already. Mary Dytko has been gone for a while now, but still no respect between the mayor and council. If the "EVIL" MD was the cause of the turmoil, why has it not changed since she is now gone? Any suggestions?
I would love to fill this blog with happy comments on how great it is to live in Brentwood, but until our leaders can learn to get along, I don't see that happening. It all starts at the top, and then trickles down. Remember Mr Mayor, you get more flies with honey.

The Chief is supposed to supervise a department of professional adults,not a group of kindergarten students.The department has segregated themselves,not the Chief. I don't know about favorites,but doesn't every boss have employees that they tolerate more than others? Maybe because they do their jobs better or are more productive in their line of work.Maybe they aren't trouble makers who meet outside of the boss's knowledge with people with agendas,vendettas,what ever.

The statement that your husband is one of the police chiefs favorites was not ment to be an insult. I do not know your husband, nor have I ever dealt with him. Any Police officer who truly does his job earns my respect and gratitude. I hope your husband is one of those, but I question the integrity when it comes to the majority of people invloved with our borough. What it was ment to say, is that his relationship with the Chief may cloud your feelings on this topic. A good Boss has no favorites and handles every situation profesionaly, not alowing any personal feelings to be involved with buisness. Maybe they are not favorites on performance but for their ability to overlook and cover up a boss' wrong doings. Again, I am not accusing your husband of anything. I am sure being one of the Boss' favorites makes ones job a lot easier.

Did they make the results public?? I think not. Just stating that it was done does not cut it. What did they audit?? You can have an audit and hide what ever you want. How long did this audit take?? How detailed was it?? How about a full scale top to bottom investigation. Not just some little patch that will make the situation go away.
For the love of PETE, please forget about the past and MD. In case you all have not noticed, she is gone! Let it go and let’s work together on making things better for our kids! At least I see some people on council getting things done. The library looks better, the streets are getting much needed attention and the practice field is in the planning stages and moving forward. If everyone who was at the meeting would pay attention instead of having their own conversations they would have heard that Dawn Lane was heading the audit with a company that comes in to do the yearly audits. A resident did get up and ask this question of which he commented on, " Why
would you have a fox watch over the hen house?"
First of all why would you have a person who apparently not able to do her job professionally in the first place head this audit.
Second this is the same person who covers for the cheif and the Mayor at all cost.
Third she ( ha ha ha ) is the main witness of which she herself has used the Sams Card for her own purchases. That is okay because she is married to Castle Shannon cheif of police which is friends with Butelli.
Fourth there were many others that had a card including the cheif.
Fifth there should have been a total investigation including paperwork,property,supplies etc.
Sixth isn't the Borough still looking for two laptops one of which the mayor received using a police departments grant, oh wait a minute didn't his brother-in-law have one also . Guess if you are a dispatcher related to the mayor you should. By the way did he ever pay the Borough back the money that was given to him by the Great Dawn Lane treasurer over $4000.00

But he surely is protected by a massive gaurd rail at his house that was put up within three days of a council meeting vote. Guess thats why the Mayor is such good friends with Mr. Kammermier. I to have been at many meetings and I try to pay attention to what is being said so I agree with Mr. Bender it should be a business meeting. If
the mayors coherts would sit down and be quiet for a change they would maybe hear something too. Although maybe this is their plan to cause havoc so that the people of Brentwood don't know what is going on?????
First of all let me say that I have been a Brentwood Borough resident for 42 years. I am a lifetime member of the Brentwood VFD. I also coached my daughters softball teams for a number of years. I started working for the Public Works Department in 1972 and in 1988 I was promoted to Superintendent of Public Works. I retired from that position 3 years ago.
I feel that I have done my fair share in trying to make this a better community to work, live and raise a family. I certainly realize that I could not please everyone which is very evident by some of the blogs that refer to me and my actions as Superintendent and a private citizen. I have always had the best interest of Brentwood Borough and its residents at heart and in all of these years I tried to do the very best job I could to accommodate everyone. Just remember (Wizard and Gatekeeper in particular) that I was an employee and I did what I was told whether I agreed with it or not and there were many times that I did NOT agree with the decisions that were made by some current and past council members. Also, just for the record, I did not take my directives from the Mayor, even though he has been my friend for a lot of years. All directives that I acted on came from Council, therefore, if you have a problem with how, why, or a time frame that things were done, please address those issues to the right people. I also never had a credit card issued to Brentwood Boro in my own name and I never used a Brentwood Borough credit card for any vender without authorization. Just let me say that I have not hidden behind a pseudonym like some of the people on this blog who feel the need to attack me and my wife. If you are proud of and stand by your convictions, why don't you just use your real name so everyone knows who you are? By the way, what have you done to improve Brentwood Borough? Come on, don't be shy, I am sure everyone wants to hear about all of your accomplishments and contributions to this community. I know I sure do, so, just stop me when you see me and we can discuss it at great length because I am sure you don't have the backbone to put your names out there for everyone to see.
In closing just let me say to all of the great people who have defended me on this blog, and who I have met on a professional and personal level and to all the wonderful friends that I have made, it has been for the most part a very memorable and pleasurable 42 years.

No I wasn't on the stage at all, I am still entertained that you think I am the mayor. I was sitting in the audience. Go to your council and ask them about the audit, I didn't see the proof, I just heard JL stating that it was done and they found nothing questionable.
As for only appearing when you make comments, I do have a life and I work 12 hour shifts so I am not always on the computer like yourself.
All these alligations are being made against the Mayor and the Chief. The only thing that keeps being brought up is the golf outing. Didn't this convicted felon once work for the borough? What are the alleged kickbacks? How has this convicted felon benefited from this?
When the chief was hired, I'm sure an extensive background check was done. If there was anything in his past, it would have been brought out. Council also has had the chief investigated. How many times does this need to be done.
You state all these malicious and damaging rumors against the mayor, the chief and whoever else you don't like that you can't back up.
Did you ever think the chief is trying to do his job and the tension is being caused by one or two police officers that don't want to take orders from the chief and do everything they can to make him look bad. Maybe somebody's worried that when the new council comes in his job might not be protected by MDs cronies.
As for the audit. Wouldn't it make sense that all findings were sent to Zapallas office. Are you saying that this is a huge conspiracy that involves the DAs office?
In closing it is still my opinion that any serving council member that knew of MDs conviction should resign their position.

The DAs office is only looking at what is sent to them. And do not forget that the Mayor does not want the DA to do anything else, being MD resigned (see the blog which started this debate).The DAs office is being invesigated at the federal level as we speak for abuse of powers and corruption. That is a known fact if you read the newspapers or watch the news. That issue is going to be very big news over the next several months due to the national attention that the Ceryl Wecht case is going to attract. The convicted felon held contracts with the borough. Again, how does it look when the Police Chief is associating with convicted felons. What about the $4000.00 that people keep speaking of on this site that the Mayor used or took, as well as the 5K money that people on this site discuss? How is it that every time these are brought up, they are ignored? Why is it that everyone keeps blaming these issues on MD and the cronies? Is she so powerful, that she still controls what goes on within the borough? As McCheese said, If MD was responsible for all of this division, why is it still there now that MD is gone? Maybe it starts higher than council. I never remeber MD handing out index cards to people in the audience at council meetings to blast the mayor with questions like some child hood game. I guess you are right about the chief only trying to do his job. There must be a lot of crime in casinos, bars and on golf courses. I too agree with Sick and Tired! I just chuckle over most of what is said on this blog! All the back stabbing makes Brentwood a very bloody and dangerous place to live! It doesn't matter if you work or hold an elected position for this borough you are going to be accused of something! You are damned if you do and damned if you don't, huh Gatekeeper! Mr. Kamermier has been retired now for quite some time, he did his job well and you are dragging him through the mudd for doing his job that he doesn't even have anymore!!! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside wanting to run for an elected position or better yet a paid position knowing that someday my name could be on this blog for something at some point for possibly just trying to do my job! A person has to be nuts to want to be put under such scrutiny when most of you bloggers are such righteous citizens.
You are right on one thing, Mr K has been retired. So you tell me hawk, why he stood up at a meeting a few months ago when MD was still under the microscope and announced to everybody at the meeting that he NEVER had a credit card from the borough. Then we come to find out that he had one for years. In fact it was just cancelled in June 2007. The problem in the borough building is this, people need to start telling the truth, because eventually the truth comes out anyway. It just makes the people who lie and scheme look really stupid. I agree that Brentwood politics are brutal. I would love to get more involved, but the hassle is just not worth it.
What he said was that he never had a credit card issued to HIM --(like a Sam's Club membership which MD's face was planted on!) A credit card can have many people on it that is permitted to sign for purchases and apparently beings he was the superintendant his name was on the list of being able to sign for things but that doesn't mean he carried it in his back pocket for his own personal use like MD did!! WHY the minute he retired he wasn't taken off of the ability to sign on that card is beyond me! BUT OH I KNOW because his name is on that list he is automatically a lyer and a schemer! That warm and fuzzy feeling is just flooding by body right now!!!
I don't believe I ever justified what MD did, lets get that straight right now. She reeps what so sows. Period.
Let's just keep in mind that there are people in the borough building that are NOT doing their jobs and we as taxpayers suffer from lost wages, law suits, union grievances, etc. This credit card account (whatever the case) should have been cancelled YEARS ago. And as far as I am concerned, Tom should have had enough sense than to get up in front of everybody and start spewing his stupidity at a public meeting. He should have made sure his name was not tied to any credit cards or credit card accounts first.
I was not talking about Tom as a schemer, there are others who do the scheming. Case in point, if you want to keep rehashing the MD situation, why was all this information brought out this summer when it seems to me that the mayor, and the treasurer apparently knew about this in November. Especially when there was an election in May. It would seem to me if your someone who sees a theft you would report it right away would'nt you?? Or would you wait 7 months to say anything? To me that seems like a scheme. The whole thing smells rotten to me. And yet our treasurer is still working up there like nothing happened. Same with the mayor. All swept under the carpet. Until the next scheme.
p.s. And I still would like to know why these little backdoor deals were made by the treasurer to let people use the cards and then just pay it back at their convenience. I don't receive interest free loans. Do you?
First off I never said you justified what MD did, I was merely using her credit card as an example. I am not rehashing what she has done and the law will hopefully prevail where she is concerned! As far as the time line, only the DA knows when they were contacted and how long they investigated MD and only they know what they are investigating at this point. Don't assume it is done. I know I am not.
How do we know that Tom even knew his name was on the card. As far as he could have known the card was issued to the STREET DEPT not personally to him. I am sure they didn't hand him the credit card and say "Here Tom, here is a credit card, it is in your name to use for supplies for the borough!" The cards from Sam's Club HAD the persons name and PICTURE on it to be used ONLY by that person unlike other credit cards like Home Depot which could be used by anyone. I interpreted your comments about the liars and schemers to have Tom included just like you are interpreting him getting up and saying he did not have a credit card in his name pertains to ALL the credit cards for the borough. It is NOT his job to make sure that the Borough cancels his name on a credit card whether he knew about it was in his name or not, it is their job and why you think it is his job baffles me!
It's only bloody and dangerous if you are of the same, slimy calibre at the offenders.
Of course, even if you don't play by the "rules", you will get attacked......and so will your children.
And if your single, with no children, and thick-skinned, you can still get attacked by those who would use official oppression against you.

I know there has to be 7 people in this Borough that have a thick skin, have no children, and would love to put this borough on the straight-and-narrow........
And by the way, we can look at the school board too........

Since you have an inside look into our police department and I have kids in our schools, please tell me why our K-9 is not used more proactively in the hunt for drugs in the borough. Who is the problem here?
We have no DARE program. Why? Should we have one? Does it make a difference? Keeping our neighborhoods drug free is a huge deal to all of the parents in the borough. What is going on here?

The school district has to request that the K-9 be brought into the schools.The police department can't just take the dog in there unless they are invited.As of now,the school asks the dog to sweep the schools about once a year.As for other activities in the borough,I don't know.Seems like a good idea though considering the way of the world today.
As far as a DARE program,all I know is that there is a debate across the country in law enforcement as to whether it works or not.Even if it proves not to be effective in deterring drug use,I think it is a nice PR thing.The kids get to interact with the officers and visa versa.
My children are grown,and thank God,we didn't deal with a drug problem in our home,but I can appreciate as a parent the concern of others.

If you now how to read and how to comprehend what you read before you type, you would understand that these are questions that I ask. The Mayor has a screen name on this site, therefore it means he frequents this site and could answer the questions himself. Instead of sombody shedding some light on this for me you attack. Perhaps your mind set is that a good offense is the best defense. So instaed of attacking the questions, how about some answers since the letters to the Mayors office that were sent went on deaf ears. While explaining the rumors of the $4000.00 , 5K monies, the missing guns, could you also explain the grant money that was spent on the 2 laptops, and how a $25,000 grant has been fully used on the skate park (looks like about $1000.00 worth of work to me). Also please justify the gifts of golf from a felon for the MAyor, police Cheif, and thier families. Since you attack me for questioning, you must know the answers for these questions. So if you get a chance to climb from under the mayors desk, please reply with answers not attacks. If you read everything, I have also questioned other council members and credit cards. It is amazing how this is where this blog has ended up after it started over an absolutly stupid statment that the mayor made to the tribune review. Can you defend that quote from the almighty one? As for the DAs office, is it not already under investigation, so how do you trust any politian? My questions of corruption are for all of the borough employees and elected officials. I would love to take pride in this community again instead of the constant thoughts of leaving like so many others. If you have not noticed the official borough sign has become a for sale sign.

As for Mr. Varney his contract was eliminated early this year and given to Missionary. Shortly there after another vendor who is related to Mr. Bob Mackewich under the direction of Mrs. Lockhart started an issue as to why they didn't receive the contract and the way it was advertised was confusing etc., etc., . Mr. Varney also paid for this Mackewich relative to also go golfing? If you don't know this is our present Public Works supervisor. He was taught well by Mr. Kammermier, not how to do his job
