E. Bellecrest & Elroy Ave

A little bird landed on my shoulder and whispered to me that Brentwood is awaiting permits that would allow them to rebuild and repave E. Bellecrest Avenue ... I am confident of my "source" and feel that this may happen sometime before the snow flies. That street is a total train-wreck and it's a wonder that it hasn't been renamed "The River Styx"! LOL! Apparently, there are some easement issues that need to be resolved. Can anyone add more to this topic? Hopefully, Elroy Ave is scheduled for repaving too - It would only make sense considering how beautiful the paving and sewer work was done on E. Francis Ave. - I am sure that the Street Dept would appreciate a smooth surface for plowing snow in the winter. Ruts and dips in the road tend to jar teeth and ruin equipment that is expensive to repair. It would be GREAT if new curbs and sidwalks could be afforded as well. Red Brick streets are nioe and quaint, but they can be a royal skating rink when it's cold. Oh well, any additional info appreciated! Anyhow, KINGSLEY was done and it's a smooth ride! Keep up the nice work!

The little bird told me that Elroy is to be paved this week.
In all these paving projects, who's paying for those nice, new sidewalks?
I believe the taxpayers are paying for the sidewalks. It's a safety concern, there are children walking on them. Did you see the condition they were in before they started?
Ironflutterby--be careful what you say about our nice new smooth streets, some people in the borough prefer those brick paved skating rink streets. I think it has something to do with the soothing rumble?? LOL.
We finally have a council that is getting things done, and three of them are leaving in January.
I thought sidewalks were privately owned? When did Brentwood decide to repair privately-owned sidewalks? Isn't it the property owners responsibility to fix their own sidewalks?
Why did these people get a free sidewalk courtesy of the genius' on our Council?
Our esteemed building inspector, under the direction of Council and using the full-force of law, has sent armed Constables to peoples homes with arrest warrants and has had them dragged into Magistrate Bova's office and, using the threat of fines and jail, made them fix their own crumbling sidewalks at their own cost.
Now that Brentwood Borough has set a precedent of fixing privately owned sidewalks, I should expect mine to be repaved soon!
ronjamin,
That is a very interesting point. Could it be that the property is considered commercial because of the school being there. If so, then why did the borough pay for the construction and not the school district?
After all is said and done, I'll remember this comment when winter comes around and I have to shovel my sidewalks within 2 HOURS(from website)after snowfall; or should we call the borough to do it?
Can't please everyone. Wasn't Marylea once a red brick rut - I think that I used to hum the Beach Boy's "Good Vibrations" when driving up from Rt. 51. Might have been Overbrook Blvd though... Why on earth I would want to drive through Carrick though eludes me at this time... Oh yes. the sidewalks were a mess - Now that there a curbs on E. Francis, I get a kick out of seeing all of the tire scuffs on the edges where people used to ride over the sidewalks to avoid oncoming traffic near Brownsville. Old habits die hard! Now then, if only the street dept. can do something about stop signs in the boro - Especially the one at Francis & Elroy. Has anyone seen the cardboard sign in bright orange pointing to the offset "official" stop sign at the corner? Seems that nobody notices it now that it is offset to the right of the sidewalk! LOL! I could name about a dozen streets that could really use a stop sign even if it is only to slow traffic down a bit... Maybe I should start a new blog about stop signs? Think that anyone would read it???
IF
yes, marylea WAS a horribly bricked road. i remember sliding down that street numerous times just as the ice glazed when the temps were just right for bricks to freeze while paved streets were fine.
As far as the stop signs, if i remember correctly, the street dept. cannot put any sign up without the wonderful council's permission and some of those signs need to be approved by penndot. ask at your next council meeting if you dare to open up a whole other can of worms and even possibly a (GASP) traffic study!!!!
I do believe the stop sign at elroy and francis is illegal in its present location, being set back so far off the street. Also illegal is the homemade stop sign posted there.
