cut-outs to deter speeders

After reading the article about Brentwood putting up cut-outs to deter speeding on Boro streets, I again have to laugh. First, there are plenty of places for kids to play then in the street. Parents should be held responsible if there child is hit by A car. I was raised never to play in the street, but apparently parents today encourage it.Obviously to lazy to take them to Elroy or Moore playgrounds or the Brentwood park. I am not sticking up for or encouraging speeding, but if the Police had A little more presence in the neighborhoods this would not happen.

Give me a break - Believe me, I am all for parents watching their kids but to make a STUPID
comment that parents should be held responsible if their child is hit by a car takes the cake - I guess your parents are responsible for you being a nitwit. Accidents happen, and it is the responsibility of eveyone to keep our children and residents safe and anything that can be done to help keep them safe is a good thing. The police cant be everywhere at all times and if this deters speeders thats all that matters.

Ok, i'm A nitwit, I have no kids, so why should I be responsible for some body else's kids. Bad enough that I have to pay school tax to send them to school I have to watch them too? On my own street I watch kids run in the street in front of cars while there parents are in the house, who's fault is that? And I am not asking the Police to be everywhere, I'm asking them to do there job, not sit at the boro building all day and night.

It is amazing to me that one person could be so angry and full of hate. why would anyone even someone that doesn't have children want to see a child hurt. I do teach my children not to play or even go near the street, to not cross without holding hands and looking both ways, but as we all know (since we all were children at one time) kids don't always listen. As much as we would like to believe we could stop an accident from happening, we can't always be that fast. There are speed limits for a reason, if we were discussing a senior citizen being kept safe from being hit, I am sure this wouldn't be an issue. As far as your taxes paying for "other peoples kids education" maybe you should look at it this way, one of those "other peoples kids" may be your doctor or banker or president someday and won't it be nice that they had a good education? It certainly will benefit you then, wont' it?!?

Doctor, President? you've got to be kidding, not from Brentwood. These kids I see in school today are lucky if they graduate. Again, I say, why should I pay for something I do not use. I never said I wish to see A child hurt. I said the parents should be held responsible for not watching or knowing there whereabouts, and most definetly if they stand there and watch them play in the street. And answer me this, the majority of side and residential streets have no posted speed limits, so how are you ever going to tell when someone is speeding?

So nice to see you have such faith in our future and our community. And let me tell you, I live in Brentwood, I plan to stay in Brentwood, and my children will go to school here, and biased or not they are very intelligent even at this young age. So please don't insult my kids intellect without even meeting them. I am not sure what area you live in, but I can't imagine any parent watching a child play in the street. I am not there so I won't say it isn't happening but like I said it is pretty hard to believe. As far as not knowing the speed limit, if you can't read or find the signs then maybe some good old fashion common sense would help you. If you are on a side street chances are the speed limit isn't going to be 45mph. You seem to be pretty upset about most of the things that make Brentwood what it is. Possibly it is time for you to find a community that will make you happy. Most of us choose Brentwood for the the sense of community, it seems to be what you hate most about it.

And you are A human radar gun? Able to tell speeds at 5mph increments? Kids are on my street just about everyday, sometimes the parents watching them, sometimes not. And I have plenty of pictures of it too. When I moved to Brentwood, it was A nice community, in the last 10 years or so, taxes have skyrocketed and people are moving out at an alarming rate, I guess you dont see all the for sale signs on just about every street. What concerns me is that when the people move out, what moves in? It is A known fact every where we have the highest taxes, who wants to move here? I'll tell you, crud and trash, and if you dont see any examples of it walking Brownsville road, your blind.

bohonekmj's picture

No I am not blind, I see nice couples walking with their kids and taking there dogs for a walk. I see mothers pushing strollers. I see kids walking with their friends, feeling safe, not afraid to walk alone on our streets. And that is huge in this time in our society. We have a great community, it is family orientated, safe and friendly. Of course every individual here isn't perfect, but show me a borough that is. You won't find it, there is good and bad no matter where you go, but I have to say there is more good here than bad. And as far as our taxes being the highest, well you may want to do more research. We moved just over a year ago and believe me the borough's around us are the same or higher.
The fact that you are taking pictures of peoples children is a bit unnerving. And yes, anyone can tell the difference between a car going 25mph or 45mph. Not to tough.

Whats up with the I-Pod that has been in the front yard on Brownsville Rd for weeks? Has the
Building Inspector contacted the resident to have it removed or is it going to be a permanent fixture? LOOKS TERRIBLE - HAS BEEN THERE TOOOOOOO LONG. We need to seriously take a good look at what this Borough is starting to look like and how some residents are letting their property decline. STEP IT UP BOROUGH OFFICIALS or we will be past the point of no return......

Geterdone's picture

No one asked you to be personally responsible but as an adult I would think you would want to protect a child from harm regardless of whether their parents are paying attention or not - I realize that there are some scatterbrain parents but in the same respect you cannot always be there to protect your children 24/7. I agree that the school tax issue is not right but until we get the tax laws changed I guess we all have to live with it - childless, elderly etc.

I was raised here and am raising my child here and considering the fact you do not know him or anything about him, I do not appreciate you insulting him or his intelligence. He is extremley intelligent and a wonderful child. You can ask any teacher or individual that knows him. Before you start insulting peoples children maybe you should look at the statistics because your insult shows you have no knowledge of what is occurring. Why don't you just move, people like you and all the negativity you have brings the rest of the community down. This place is still a great community, it is all the outsiders who move in with their negativity that brings the community down.
